In 1990, a medical work was started in Sakila. Since that time, a hospital building was started and then put on hold. Many medical teams have visited from the U.S. and helped thousands of villagers with their medical needs. A dispensary has been built just off campus and employs medical staff to minister to the people. The patients have a variety illnesses and pay from $1.00 to $1.50 per visit. If they need medicine, they pay ½ of the cost and the ministry picks up the other half. NHIH provides operating expenses to run the dispensary but this does not cover the complete cost. Presently, extra money has to be taken out of savings to make up the difference.

The money paid by villagers helps with the cost of medicine and supplies for the dispensary. Construction teams have been going over to the dispensary for the last few years and updating the structure. They have wired for both Tanzanian and U.S. electric current, added rooms, worked on plumbing and bathroom issues. The team plans to go again this year and get the toilets, showers and sinks running with clean water. The team also sent over a large generator and wired it in for potential electrical failure during medical procedures.
