The International Evangelism Centre Bible school in Sakila was started in 1983 by Eliudi Issangya. The first class started with 20 students, and today the school graduates approximately 180 students per year. Bible school is free to all who are accepted.
Since 1983, approximately 6,320 students have graduated from the Bible school in Sakila. Those students have planted about 1,860 churches in east Africa. That equates to one church for every 3 ½ graduates!
The school employs about 40 staff including teachers, cooks, maintenance workers, tractor drivers, office workers, and field hands. The average salary per person per month is about $25.
There are two Bible school graduations in Sakila per year. It costs about $3,000 per graduation for the celebration, which includes the use of a graduation gown and hat, a printed diploma, and a meal for everyone in attendance (usually thousands of visitors, and all are fed). The Bible that each student receives costs about $40 each. [Link to sponsor a Bible here.] There are between 80-100 students each graduating session. The sessions run January to June and July to December.
Annually the Bible school campus is the host site for a ministry seminar that provides a time for all graduates, pastors, evangelists, and teachers to come together for teaching, encouragement, problem-solving, and sharing. The seminar happens every June between the two Bible school sessions. Seminar costs range from $6,000-$8,000 per year depending on the length of the seminar (3-6 days). Food and lodging are provided for those who have come from afar.
Eliudi also founded two other Bible schools, one in South Africa and the other in the Congo. South Africa started in 2006, closed down temporarily, and reopened in 2016. The Congo school started in 2002. Eliudi says these are difficult areas in which to work and start churches, so the work has been consistent but slower going than with the main Bible school in Sakila.
